ELP currently partners with six public high schools in the South Bronx - The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology, The Bronx Academy of Letters, Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics, Comp Sci High, South Bronx Prep, and Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School.
In our Core Program, students meet after school 2 days a week to interact with professionals and build their networks, develop and hone essential professional skills, and work on a team project emulating real world situations.
Although we gladly work with all grade levels, our core program is geared towards scholars in 10th and 11th grade. This allows scholars to be involved in our internship program in 11th or 12th grade. You can take ELP Core for up to two semesters and at least one semester is required to be eligible for our internship program.
A significant part of the core program involves working on a capstone group project which challenges scholars through business venture design competitions, culminating in formal presentations.
We meet with our scholars 2x per week for 10 weeks over the course of each semester:
Scholars collaborate with students from other schools in these sessions. Additionally we host workshops, trips, and other organized opportunities for scholars to connect and network.
The ELP Internship Program is a key part of the Emerging Leaders experience and is now in its fourth year. This program is designed for students who have completed at least one semester of the ELP Core Program, offering them the chance to test their skills and gain real-world work experience through a paid professional internship alongside their school commitments.
The Internship Program started in Spring 2022 with 12 scholars and has since expanded. In Spring 2024, 28 interns were placed across various industries and disciplines, including JP Morgan Asset Management, ACAP Insurance, and the Bronx District Attorney's Office.
The goal of the Internship program is to offer valuable work experience while also fostering professional development and personal growth, ensuring a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants. Interns are paid for their work and contributions to their teams.
The ELP Fellowship Program is a pilot initiative of ELP to continue working with scholars in long-term, mentorship focused format. In the Fellowship program scholars are paired with mentors across career stages who help to:
The Fellowship Program is currently in its first 2-year cycle and includes 48 participants including scholars and JPMAM professionals in 8 pods (small groups of mentors and mentees who meet together as a group on a regular basis as well). Fellows engage in both group and one-on-one mentoring meetings with a range of mentors from C-suite to early career professionals that involve both career focused curriculum and casual connection.
